Connected by Sound

What do you think of when you hear the word music?
Is it the song that seems to pop up on the radio every time you start you car, so familiar that it loops aimlessly in your head all day? Is it the killer soundtrack from the newest movie release that elevates every scene and takes you through every emotion possible? Maybe its the memory of the latest concert you went to, your favorite artist locking into the groove and laying down some juicy harmonies that make the whole room move? Or perhaps it's that tricky passage you need to sit down and practice before your upcoming lesson. 

Regardless of what comes to mind, I love that music is universal. It creates communities built on shared interests, experiences, emotions, while simultaneously providing comfort, happiness, and calm in our lives when we need it most. Music has a way of meeting us exactly where we are--whether we're celebrating, grieving, questioning, or just getting through the day. 

In the current state of our world, having something as grounding as music feels more important than ever. Right now, we are seeing music function as resistance and solidarity, giving voice to lived experiences and collective struggles. A powerful example I've been listening to since the Super Bowl half time show is Bad Bunny's DeBí TiRAR MáS FOtoS by Bad Bunny, which uses sound, language, and cultural memory to comment on identity, history, and belonging. Music does more than entertain us--it challenges and unites us. 

Through this blog, I aim to share my musical thoughts and opinions with anyone who appreciates music, from trained musicians to casual listeners, and everyone in between. I want this space to be a vessel for curiosity and conversation. I've been listening to albums that deserve deeper reflection, reading vibrant works that explore music alongside social, cultural, and political realities, and revisiting and exploring new pieces that continue to shape how I hear the world. Ultimately, this blog is about connection--how music shapes us, reflects us, and reminds us in uncertain times, we're not listening alone. I am looking forward to having you join me on this journey, filled with connection with, exploration of, and appreciation for music and all facets of life it integrates with!
